TL;DR
Based on earlier tests the assumption is that the ISP in use delivers a download speed of 56 Mbps, while 50 Mbps must be delivered contractually.
The graph below, based on our tests, clearly shows that there are clusters or categories of speed tests.

Introduction
When we conducted our tests in 2020, we had only one reference speed: the 50 Mbps advertised by the internet provider. Later tests confirmed our assumption that the true internet speed is 12% higher than advertised.
Based on these later experiences, we've updated this article in 2025. We now indicate whether a speed test is mainstream or realistic. We also provide the accuracy score (based on the median).
Method of measurement
All tests have been done with Google Chrome on a wired Windows computer.
Speed tests to test
We tested all unique speed tests we were aware of.

Conclusions
Based on the these measurements we conclude the following:
- There are 6 speed tests which give an downloadspeed in the range 54-56 Mbps
- There are 3 realistic speed tests (Range 54.5 .. 56.0 Mbps)
- There are 10 speed tests which give an downloadspeed in the range 50-52 Mbps
- There are 9 mainstream speed tests (Range 50.0 .. 51.5 Mbps)
- There is 1 speed test which give an downloadspeed in the range 50-56 Mbps (actually 50-100 Mbps)
- Almost every speed test has a false accuracy
Our assumption that the ISP in use delivers a download speed of 56 Mbps, while 50 Mbps must be delivered contractually seems to be correct.
Speed test results in a graph
To make clear what the differences in measurements are, we have created the graph below.
False accuracy
Almost every speed test has a false accuracy. The significant figures do not correspond to the standard deviation.
The only exception is "Internet Speed at a Glance" which only gives a range for the download speed.
