Do speed tests skip navigation links?

TL;DR

Two speed tests of the speed test top 10 does not need the option to skip links. These speed tests are Cloudflare and Internet Speed at a Glance.

The other speed tests should have this option, but don't offer the ability to skip links.

Introduction

Navigation links is mentioned as one of the 12 Common Web Accessibility Issues for the Visually Impaired.

The skip navigation link should be one of the first items that screen readers hear and that keyboard users navigate to using the keyboard (typically by pressing the Tab key).

Method of measurement

For this test we visit the homepage of the speed test and

  1. try to find out if skipping navigation links is necessary
  2. inspect if there is an option to skip the navigation links

The test is invoked immediately after loading the homepage. When a speed test starts automatically, the test is started when the test is completed.

For this test we consider that skipping navigation links is not necessary when the speed test could be started with 5 key strokes or less.

We use the results of the Keyboard friendly speed tests test to determine is skipping navigation is necessary.

For the speed tests that need the skip navigation option we search in the source code for the text "skip". If this text isn't found the speed test fails.
