The IPv6 Test speed test is a special speed test. IPv6 Test claims to test internet speed when using IPv4 and when using IPv6.
However this speed test is not a recommended speed test, mainly because you cannot trust this speed test to work correctly. Besides that there are more accurate speed tests.
- Data efficiency: 30/100
- Time to complete: 50/100
- Security: 23/100
- Privacy friendly: 28/100
- Usability: 20/100
- Accessibility: 17/100
- Informative: 40/100
With an adverstised speed of 100 Mbps and a measured internet speed of 95.3 Mbps (IPv6), we conclude that the IPv6 Test speed test is not an accurate speed test (Accuracy score: 20/100).
We were unable to determine who owns the IPv6 Test. The first occurence on the Wayback Machine is from February 2011.
IPv4 and IPv6
With the IPv6 Test speed test it is possible to measure your internet speed in the case of IPv4 and in the case of IPv6.
The IPv6 Test speed test is a conservative speed test. That is, this speed test measures structural, both in the case of IPv4 and in the case of IPv6, an internet speed lower than the advertised speed.
If you are only using this speed test to investigate whether IPv6-based internet is faster or slower than IPv4-based internet, then a conservative speed is not as important, but the differences between the two are important.
That's exactly what we did in the test IPv4 versus IPv6.
Unstable
That the IPv4 versus IPv6 test was successful is a small miracle. Now that we want to look at the speed test itself, we could not successfully complete three tests in a row. We can therefore only conclude that the IPv6 Test speed test is unstable.
We have had all possible error situations:
- No test works
- IPv4 test does not work
- IPv4 test hangs
- IPv6 test does not work
- IPv6 test hangs
When the speed test comes to a result, the page is automatically scrolled to the graph.
The disadvantage of this is that the measured values are no longer easy to read. To read them you have to scroll back up.
The IPv6 Test speed test is an original speed test.
Pros
This IPv6 Test speed test has the following pros:
- It measures both the IPv4 download speed as the IPv6 download speed
- There is a contact form
- Sponsoring with bitcoins is possible
Cons
This IPv6 Test speed test has the following cons:
- The speed test is unstable
- The measured values are structural to low
- There is no privacy policy
When to use IPv6 Test
If you just want to know what your internet speed is, then use another speed test. Read our advice for a better speed test that suits your needs.
If you want to compare your IPv4 internet speed with your IPv6 internet speed you might give IPv6 Test a try.
How we tested
We have tested the IPv6 Test speed test in a standardized way. This makes speed tests easy to compare.
The following results form the basis for this speed test review:
- Abort/pause possible: no
- Ad-free: no
- Average download speed of 3 measurements: 95.3 Mbps
- Clear indication of the current focus: yes
- Correct back button behavior: yes
- Flesch Reading Ease score of the privacy policy: 0 (there is no privacy policy)
- Number of ACheckers known problems: 7
- Number of cookies: 6
- Number of measured features: 1 (the second download speed)
- Number of Wave errors: 6
- Observatory score: 0
- Tingtun score: 89.42
- Total data use of 3 measurements: 779.6 MiBs
- Total time to complete 3 tests: 87 seconds
