We compared Cloudflare ★★★★☆ with Google Fiber (original) ★★★★★ and concluded that Google Fiber is a better speed test than Cloudflare.
This is mainly because Google Fiber scores higher than Cloudflare in data efficiency and speed.
The radar chart above is based on the results of our standardized speed test test. The results speak for themselves.
Strengths of Cloudflare
By far Cloudflare's strongest point is its information provision.
Even before you start the test, it becomes clear what happens to your IP address and how many megabytes (maximum) are needed for a test.
Cloudflare runs multiple tests in succession. Each test clearly shows what the results are.
Cloudflare also scores well in terms of ease of use. For example, you can easily pause the test. Furthermore, Cloudflare is ad- and cookie-free.
It is therefore not surprising that Cloudflare also scores high on the Usable speed tests and Privacy respecting speed tests lists.
Strengths of Google Fiber (original)
Google Fiber (original) is accuracte and fast (which is a rare combination).
There are no ads and no cookies. Google Fiber is therefore a privacy-friendly speed test.
Despite the warning that "You are not on the Google Fiber network. Running a speed test on your mobile network may result in data charges" the Google Fiber speed test is data efficient.
Our recommendation
Based on what we know about speed tests, if we had to choose between these two speed tests, we would choose Google Fiber over Cloudflare. The decisive factors are the high scores that Google Fiber achieves in the areas of accuracy, data efficiency, speed, privacy-friendliness and usability.
