M-Lab versus Cloudflare

We compared M-Lab ★★★★★ with Cloudflare ★★★★☆ and concluded that M-Lab is a better speed test than Cloudflare.

This is mainly because M-Lab is much more faster and data efficient than Cloudflare.

However, if the information provision is important to you, it's best to use Cloudflare.

Strengths of M-Lab

M-Lab is one of the few speed tests with an accuracy score of 100 (out of 100).

It's good to know that compared to most other speed tests, M-Lab scores quite well and fairly evenly on the different aspects we tested.

M-Lab scores high on the overall score list due to its high accuracy and thoroughness.

Strengths of Cloudflare

By far Cloudflare's strongest point is its information provision.

Even before you start the test, it becomes clear what happens to your IP address and how many megabytes (maximum) are needed for a test.

Cloudflare runs multiple tests in succession. Each test clearly shows what the results are.

Cloudflare also scores well in terms of ease of use. For example, you can easily pause the test. Furthermore, Cloudflare is ad- and cookie-free.

It is therefore not surprising that Cloudflare also scores high on the Usable speed tests and Privacy respecting speed tests lists.

Our recommendation

Based on what we know about speed tests, if we had to choose between these two speed tests, we would choose M-Lab over Cloudflare. The deciding factor is the speed and data efficency of M-Lab.
